Tom played a critical role in nurturing the wearables and AR/VR ecosystem as a community builder as founder of We Are Wearables and Co-producer of AWE.
In 2013, Tom founded We Are Wearables which he grew to the largest wearable tech community of its kind with over 120,000 members and meetup chapters active around North America prior to its acquisition by AugmentedReality.org, the non-profit behind AWE (Augmented World Expo). Tom continued to nurture and grow the AR & VR ecosystem as Co-producer of AWE. He produced AWE USA from 2014-2019 growing it to 7,000 attendees and establishing it as “the most essential AR and VR conference and expo” according to Forbes. He then worked with the team to take AWE conference and expos to Europe, Asia and MEA in addition to creating a network of meetup chapters, AWE Nites, around the world. Before his departure, the AWE community had grown to over 250,000 globally across all channels. Tom continues to support the AWE community as a Board Member of AugmentedReality.org.
In 2014 & 2015, Tom founded and produced WEST, North America's first Wearable Tech & Entertainment conference and expo. He was also on the founding team of the SportsHack, a Hackathon supporting innovation in sports and wearable tech, during this same period.
AWE (Augmented World Expo), Co-Producer
Tom was co-producer of AWE for nearly 6 years producing conference and expos in the USA, Europe, China and MEA and supporting a network of meetups globally.
AWE is the most essential AR & VR conference and expo according to Forbes with dates in the USA, Europe, China and MEA. AWE USA celebrated its 10th annual event in 2019 with nearly 7,000 attendees, 250+ exhibitors and 350+ speakers at the event.
AWE also supports a network of independently organized meetup chapters dedicated to building a hub for augmented reality in their city called AWE Nites. There are currently 10 AWE Nite meetups around the world including Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Chicago, LA, New York, San Francisco, Phoenix, Vancouver and Toronto.
AWE is owned and operated by AugmentedReality.org, a non-profit organization on a mission to advance augmented reality to advance humanity. Tom continues to support the AWE community as a Board Member of AugmentedReality.org.

Started in 2013, We Are Wearables grew to become the largest wearable tech community in the world with a total reach across all our channels of over 120,000 and physical chapters in Toronto, Chicago, Montreal & Ottawa. The community was made up of entrepreneurs, investors, media, product managers, marketing and advertising executives, brand managers, OEMs, UX and graphic designers and developers.
In addition to hosting regular meetups in all chapter cities, We Are Wearables helped achieve its mission of adoption and growth in wearable tech in its efforts on social media, blog and storytelling alongside brands and media. Some of the partners that have worked with We Are Wearables include Intel, Best Buy, IBM, Abbott, MaRS Discovery District, CFC IDEABOOST, TechNexus, 1871, and Motorola.
In 2018, We Are Wearables was acquired by AugmentedReality.org, the non-profit behind AWE, the world's #1 XR event series.

WEST (Wearable Entertainment & Sports Toronto), Founder and Producer
WEST: Wearable Entertainment & Sports Toronto was North America's only one-day event dedicated to exploring how wearable tech is changing the game of sports and how we make and experience entertainment. WEST was hosted in 2014 & 2015 in Toronto. In 2015, WEST hosted over 600 people with 42 speakers on stage and 31 exhibitors taking up two floors at the MaRS Discovery District Centre. Participating companies included The VOID, Wearable Experiments, CFC, TIFF, MLSE, Lightwave, Intellitix, PixMob, STATS, Zebra Sports, Moff, and Transhumanist Party leader Zoltan Istvan.
Sportshack Weekend, Co-Producer
SportsHack was Canada's first wearable tech hackathon focused on sports which ran for 2 years in a row. The first event in 2014 was set within the iconic Mattamy Athletic Centre, formally Maple Leaf Gardens. This event was in partnership with IBM, Ryerson University, and We Are Wearables. Sportshack gave participants the chance to work with the coolest wearable, Cloud and Analytics technologies applied in the world of sports.
